Veronica had just lost the last of her family. When she stumbles upon someone breaking into her home, a man named Max doesn't think it is a simple robbery case. He puts her in the hands of Stroker, a grouchy taxidermist. When Max dies, Stroker whisk Veronica away to determine if she had anything to do with his death.
I loved this book! Veronica is everything I wanted in a heroine from 1887. She is smart, self-reliant, and not afraid to have a little fun.
I absolutely loved that she was captured and studied butterflies. It allowed her to go toe to toe with Stroker, a handsome but angry taxidermist. From the get go these two had wonderful chemistry and witty dialogue.
This was such a great start to a new series. There were so many colorful characters, I can't wait to read more about them in the next installment.
I give this book a B+
I devour worlds with each new book. I am making up for lost time as a late bloomer of the reading world.
