This is the sequel to Magonia.
I don't say this often but this duology should have been a standalone.
I wasn't a huge fan of Magonia. It was one of my most anticipated books for 2015 and unfortunately it didn't live up to all the prelease hype. However, I did think that Magonia wrapped up nicely and I was surprised to see that it had a sequel.
This book wasn't needed at all though. The story felt so disconnected and the strong characters that I loved in the first book became such whiny hot messes in this one. I really, really hated what they did to Jason's character.
I just found myself constantly rolling my eyes at Aza and Jason's antics and being all scowly in general when people started talking.
I gave this book a D.
The only thing I liked about this book was the honest depiction of teenagers having a sex life. It was funny and well done. I loved seeing Jason's moms having a serious discussion with Aza about having safe sex.
I devour worlds with each new book. I am making up for lost time as a late bloomer of the reading world.
