This is a Per Pan retelling based on Captain Hook.
I loved this retelling. The author did a fantastic job of capturing the magical Neverland world. It was carefree, dark and it felt dangerous. She wasn't afraid to shed a darker light on Peter Pan. She expanded on the roles of the mermaids, fairies, and natives.
But most importantly she gave Hook an origin story worthy of this pirate captain. We watch Hook grow up to be this pirate and experience all of his lows. He knows he has been trapped on this island for over 200 years, he sees it as his purgatory.
But things change when for the first time a woman is transported to the island. Hook knows she could be the key to stop this toxic cycle.
I highly recommend this book! It is a well crafted darker retelling of Neverland, for adult audiences.
I give this book a B+
I devour worlds with each new book. I am making up for lost time as a late bloomer of the reading world.
