Noemi is a soldier trying to fight for her planets freedom against Earth. She hates the robots that keep killing her loved ones. When her sister gets shot down in battle, Noemi takes her into an abandoned ship in hopes to find safety. Abel has been trapped on that abandoned ship for decades. He has wants nothing more than to return to his creator. He wasn't expecting to see anyone try to board his ship.
Claudia Gray has been officially added to my autobuy list. I really enjoyed her Firebird series and I absolutely adored this book.
There have been so many space and robot books that have come out lately but this is one of the few books that actually felt like it took place in space. Noemi and Abel have to work together in order to help save Noemi's people so they embark on a scavenger hunt across multiple planets. Each planet is completely different from one another and the people that live on those planets are just as different.
It was a wonderful setting for my two new favorite characters. Noemi came across very hard at the beginning she had had to survive so much already. She was very closed off and wasn't quick to trust. Abel was trying to figure out how to return to creator/father. As an AI, Abel knew he was very different from the other robots his father had created. He has more than one purpose, he loves movies and he can even dream.
I absolutely loved seeing both of these characters become more human as the story progressed. They may have started off this book being enemies but their friendship grew in such a wonderful and organic way.
I am giving this book a B+. I really, really liked it.
I devour worlds with each new book. I am making up for lost time as a late bloomer of the reading world.
