May and her best friend Libby used to spend their free time creating comics together. May wrote while Libby drew Princess X. After Libby died, May was left devastated when she could no longer find the comics they created. Years later May find a boy with a Princess X patch and posters cover her old town. May is now on a mission to discover who is running the I am Princess X website.
I was so pleasantly surprised by this book. Not only is it filled with wonderful illustrations and it is a murder mystery but the whole book focuses on FEMALE FRIENDSHIPS!!!!
*CUE SQUEELS AND CONFETTI*
I absolutely adored this book. May and Libby had such a close friendship growing up. They spent so much time together, that May felt so lost after Libby's death. For the longest time May refused to believe that Libby was gone. When the comic resurfaced May uses the help of tech savvy Patrick to help discover who is behind the new webcomic.
I have to say I adored Patrick for the most part. He and May worked really well together and their budding friendship was amazing to see watch. I think this is first time, I have ever read a book where the main female character meets a new boy and it doesn't lead to a romance. They have a strictly platonic friendship and that is so refreshing to see in a ya book.
I just adored this book so much. It was a fast read and very enjoyable.
My only complaint was that at times the book felt like an over the top 90s slasher movie. It was a bit jarring and it didn't always line up with the rest of the story.
I give this book a B+
I devour worlds with each new book. I am making up for lost time as a late bloomer of the reading world.
